One of my primary responsibilities at UC Davis Continuing and Professional Education was to work with instructors to produce MOOCs (Massively Open Online Courses) for our partner, Coursera. During my 3.5 years with CPE, I led teams to produce nearly 20 MOOC courses, most of which were parts of specializations, such as this one: Geographic Information Systems.
On this series of 4 courses, I helped instructor Nick Santos edit his scripts and design his assignments, wrote quiz questions, found ancillary material, directed all of the recordings, and assembled all the materials on the platform. The MOOCs for which I’ve been the project manager and instructional designer continue to have hundreds of thousands of active leaners combined and have a strong average user rating of 4.7/5. According to Coursera, this specialization is among their very best, garnering a 4.8/5 user rating, and is used as a model for other schools.
Over 185,000 learners have participated in this course and it is still going strong all these years later.
